Achilles Tendonitis

How we can help you...

Achilles tendonitis is a common tendon injury (inflammation at the Achilles tendon at the rear of the ankle) and should be treated as early as possible.

Achilles tendonitis can be caused by a number of factors - a biomechanical problem in the foot can cause the tendon to bow outwards, causing painful inflammation in the area. An increase in strenuous activity or training, inappropriate footwear and tight calf or hamstring muscles can also cause the Achilles tendon to stretch, strain and tear.

How is achilles tendonitis treated?

Generally, Achilles tendonitis responds well to conservative treatments. Our podiatrists can help you to identify the best exercises to assist with strengthening the tendon. If your Achilles tendonitis is linked to a biomechanical issue, our podiatrists can also help by providing orthoses to allow the foot to function in a position which minimises the abnormal forces being applied to the tendon, allowing it to recover and prevent recurrence in the future.
